Team profile

USA

The USA, ranked third in the world, won its second straight FIVB Volleyball Nations League title earlier this year in a thrilling five-set win over Brazil and later qualified for the 2020 Olympic Games by winning FIVB Tokyo Qualification Tournament Pool C.
USA has won three silver and two bronze medals at the Olympic Games. They finished on the podium at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games after defeating Netherlands 3-1 in the bronze-medal match. The Americans are the only country to medal in women's indoor volleyball in each of the last three Olympic Games.
Along with their Olympic successes, USA won the 2014 FIVB World Championship for the first time with a 3-1 win over China in the final after having collected two silver and two bronze medals in the previous World Championship editions. The USA finished fifth in last year's World Championship.
USA also had success in the FIVB World Grand Prix, which preceded the Volleyball Nations League. The Americans collected six gold medals in 24 appearances in the event, including 2015 in Omaha. Additionally, USA captured one silver and two bronze medals in World Grand Prix competitions.

Coach

Karch Kiraly

Karch Kiraly

Volleyball legend Charles 'Karch' Kiraly, who is widely considered the best player of all time, was promoted from assistant to head coach of the USA Women’s National Team in 2012. He led the USA to their first World Grand Prix gold medal on home soil in 2015 in Omaha. He also found success as a coach in other tournaments, leading the team to gold at the 2014 FIVB World Championship, bronze medal at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games and gold at the 2018 and 2019 FIVB Volleyball Nations League. As a player, Kiraly is the only player to have won Olympic gold in both indoor and beach volleyball.
