Yanagida: We need to play like this against strong teams

Fukuoka, Japan, October 4, 2019 – Yuji Nishida scored 16 points as Japan beat Tunisia 3-0 (25-23, 25-21, 25-11) at the FIVB Volleyball Men’s World Cup on Friday.

Japan coach Yuichi Nakagaichi: "This is one team that we wanted to beat. We won 3-0. It is a sigh of relief. I had peace of mind watching the game. We had seven aces in the third set and I think the support of the audience helped create that. We have our second win and I am happy about that."

Japan captain Masahiro Yanagida: "We had to win and we did 3-0. We need to play like this against the strong teams we will face in the coming days. It will be good if we can."

Japan player Yuji Nishida
: "There were some dangerous moments in the first set but we pushed through. We will need to do that against stronger teams. Mentality is a factor to compete."

Japan player Masahiro Sekita: "I tried to distribute my sets well to help our attack. I’m happy that we won."

Tunisia coach Antonio Giaccobe: "The first two sets we stayed in the game and were close to Japan. Nagga scored in the first two sets, but he also made a mistake late in the second set when he was in position to score. We allowed them to play at their best level. I played different players because I want to be sure of the level of all the players. I want to see who has the possibility to keep their concentration for a long time. The mind is the player - the body is what the mind uses."

Tunisia player Hamza Nagga: "We played good in the first and second sets. We lost concentration after that. We put our hands down on defence. Japan have good defence and it is difficult to make points against them. They are not tall, but they are good defenders."
