We showed good all-round fundamentals against Russia: Ze Roberto

Osaka, Japan, September 29, 2019 – Brazil beat Russia 3-1 (28-26, 25-20, 21-25, 25-19) in the second match on the final day of the FIVB Women’s World Cup at Osaka’s Edion Arena on Sunday.

Brazil coach Jose Roberto Guimaraes: "I would like to congratulate Russia for making third place. It’s not by chance because Russia have shown big growth in the last few months and I want to recognize the team they have built. For Brazil, we had a good match today, not just on our serve but in all the fundamentals of volleyball: block, reception and counterattack. We played a balanced game and I’m very happy about today’s result. I agree that one of the main characteristics of Brazil’s volleyball is passion. If we lack passion, we can’t develop our technical skills and defensive skills. In this tournament, we couldn’t show that passion in the games against the Netherlands, Korea and USA. I really think that in order to develop and show Brazilian volleyball at its best, one of the first things we need is to have passion and a good attitude in all games."

Brazil captain Fabiana Claudino: "I’m really happy with the win today and the way we played today. Throughout the match, we really fought for each point and that enabled us to neutralize our opponents, so it’s very satisfying. Of course, we had some problems in this tournament, so we must improve many things. I really want to thank all the fans who supported us in this tournament."

Russia coach Sergio Busato: "Today, I have a good impression about my team because we played against one of the best teams in the world and one of the best schools in the world. We feel that when there is a huge rally, Brazil always win them and this is a result of hard work. It’s always a pleasure to play Brazil and my compliments to Ze Roberto, who is an institution as a coach."

Russia player Irina Voronkova: "It was a really hard game today with both teams fighting hard and doing whatever it takes to get the win. But Brazil defended better and we struggled. I want to thank everyone for the support we had in this tournament. We’re going to make sure we improve our team and play, and make sure we have a better performance in the next tournament."
