Osaka, Japan, September 29, 2019 – The Dominican Republic closed out its FIVB Volleyball Women's World Cup campaign on a positive note against Serbia on Sunday at Maruzen Intec Arena Osaka, taking the match 3-1 (25-22, 25-21, 22-25, 25-17) and wrapping up the tournament with a 6-5 winning record, while Serbia dropped to a 4-7.
Dominican Republic coach Marcos Kwiek: "Today's match I am happy and satisfied with our win today, and also with the way we won. Everyone kept their concentration well in this match. It was only in the third set where we were short of attention but in the end it was good that we won. I'm grateful to all the players, they played well - our captain and all our players did well. We did not a have a good start to the competition, but I'm glad we ended on a good note."On January's Olympic qualifiers: "We have about three months until this competition in January. And it's important for us to keep the current form of the team. We are now in good condition, and it's important to keep that. This upcoming competition will be very important for us, we will be scrambling for one remaining ticket that we want to get, and we will make every effort to that end."
Dominican Republic captain Prisilla Rivera Brens: "I'm very pleased with today's win. I'm happy about it, it was a good match. At the beginning we didn't really have a good start, but we ended on a good note, and I feel lucky about it."
Serbia coach Aleksandar Vladisavliev: "I just said yesterday in a meeting with our girls today that it's not about the quality of the team but instead it would be the team with more motivation and more energy that would win. Today it was the Dominicans. For this tournament we reached our goal, because all of our young players played and got to show some talent. I hope in the next competition that we will do better."
On positive takeaways from this tournament: "Actually I'm pretty satisfied with some of our girls, I think some of them a little can compare with our first six and can do a great job. Some have to work more to do, in order to be better if they have a chance."
Serbia captain Ana Bjelica: "It was the last game for us here, and one without much pressure because we didn't play for a medal. I asked my team to give 100 per cent and not give up. I think mostly they did that, but the Dominicans just played with more energy and this is why we lost."
