Meet the best players of the Women’s World Cup

 

Lausanne, Switzerland, October 3, 2019 - The 2019 FIVB Volleyball Women's World Cup Dream Team brought together the cream of the tournament after 66 matches played across five cities in Japan. Meet the seven players that made the Dream Team below.

Zhu Ting (China): MVP & Best Outside Hitter




The 24-year-old was not only named MVP of the competition for her role in leading China to their fifth gold in the 46-year history of the competition, but she also made the tournament's Dream Team in the outside hitter position.

Zhu was the World Cup's fourth-best scorer with 178 points from 11 matches and
was by far the most efficient attacker. She is the only player to have attacked above the 50% mark. She was also sixth-best server of the tournament.

This is Zhu's second consecutive World Cup MVP award after also winning the award in 2015.

Kelsey Robinson (USA): Best Outside Hitter

The 27-year-old American was the top receiver and the 8th most efficient attacker and pushed USA to the silver medal, earning her a place in the World Cup's Dream Team.

Robinson scored 26 points in her team's victory against World Cup bronze medallists Russia.



Ding Xia (China): Best Setter


China's Ding Xia was the mastermind behind China's undefeated run for their back-to-back gold medal.
In addition to her playmaking contribution to China, 29-year-old Ding was also fourth-best server of the World Cup.


Annie Drews (USA): Best Opposite Hitter

After being named MVP of the 2019 FIVB Volleyball Nations League, the left-handed American continues to shine as the Best Opposite of the World Cup.
The 25-year-old scored 123 points in 11 matches and was the most efficient opposite hitter out of all 12 teams with a 46% success rate.


Wang Mengjie (China): Best Libero

The 23-year-old did not disappoint. Crucial in setting up plays for the big kills, Wang was a digging machine for China as they faced 11 of the world’s top teams.


Yan Ni (China) and Irina Koroleva (Russia): Best Middle Blockers

Filling in the middle blocker positions on the Dream Team were Russia's Irina Koroleva and China's Yan Ni.

Koroleva, 27, was top blocker of the competition with an impressive 41 stuffs in 11 matches. Overall she scored 135 points, including 88 kills and 6 aces.

Koroleva was closely followed in second place of the Best Blockers list by 32-year-old Yan, who recorded 34 solo blocks, 45 kills and 4 aces.
