Larson: We're just focusing on ourselves and how we can get better

Hamamatsu, Japan, September 19, 2019 – USA defeated Brazil 3-0 (25-22, 25-18, 25-19) on the fifth day of the FIVB Women’s World Cup at Hamamatsu Arena on Thursday.

USA coach Karch Kiraly: "We have tremendous respect for this coach and his staff and his team. Brazil is one of the great programmes in the world of international volleyball, so we always know it will be difficult when we play. Our team did a nice job of executing our strategy today and we’re happy to get the win."

USA captain Jordan Larson: "It's always an honour to compete against Brazil. We have a lot of respect for them and their coaching team. It was a great match for us. We managed to stay ahead for the entire match and kept pressing our offence. I think we put together a very nice match. Ultimately, we’re just focusing on ourselves and how we can get better every day and we just came in with that attitude, sticking together and everybody’s ready to play."

On playing their next match against Japan: "We are excited to go to a new city. We love Japan and we’re excited to play against Japan. It will be a great atmosphere and it’s one of my favourite places to be and be part of."

Brazil coach Jose Roberto Guimaraes: "Congratulations to USA for today. They missed very little, had a great strategy, served well and played with speed. They were almost perfect, I’d say. We couldn’t match their fast start. We started to play our game after a couple of timeouts, but by then it was too late to make a comeback."

Brazil captain Fabiana Claudino: "Congratulations to USA for the win. We couldn’t get into our rhythm, so couldn’t control the game. USA had a good strategy and kept the pressure up throughout the three sets."
