Yokohama, Japan, September 15, 2019 – The Dominican Republic beat Korea 3-1 (25-17, 24-26, 25-23, 25-23) behind a match-high 27 points from Brayelin Martinez at the FIVB Women’s World Cup on Sunday and coach Marcos Kwiek was happy with his team’s performance in the victory.
Dominican Republic coach Marcos Kwiek: "I am happy with the win. They are an aggressive team with a strong attack and serve. They caught us in the second set, but we regained our rhythm in the third set. We will prepare for the next match now. We did target Kim Yeon Koung with our serves today so that she could focus less on attacks."
Dominican Republic captain Prisilla Rivera: "We are very happy to get our first victory at the World Cup. Korea fought hard today. We have areas we need to improve on, but we found our rhythm and hope to keep it tomorrow."
Korea coach Stefano Lavarini: "Today was better than yesterday. I was not happy about the attitude of the players yesterday. We started soft today, but I saw the players showing their potential. Our play was disappointing in important moments in the third an fourth sets. We did have a better attitude and play today".
Korea captain Kim Yeon Koung: "We could have won today. We did have chances. We prepared well but were not able to win. We our trying to find our balance while dealing with various concerns. Now we will get ready for tomorrow."
