Japan coach Nakada: "We still have many challenges ahead"

Yokohama, Japan, September 18, 2019 – Japan downed Cameroon 3-0 (25-17, 25-17, 25-20) at the FIVB Women’s World Cup on Wednesday and coach Kumi Nakada believes that more challenges lay ahead for her team.

Japan coach Kumi Nakada: "We still have many challenges ahead. Our first purpose tonight was to win, so I am relieved. Tomorrow against China we will fight and do our best. I thought a quick attack would work for us tonight."

Japan player Sarina Koga: "It was a good performance tonight that will translate to the next match against China."

Japan player Miya Sato: "After three matches in a row and losing more than we won, this win gives us a boost. We will prepare now for tomorrow’s match with China."

Japan player Miwako Osanai: "We wanted to get momentum at the beginning tonight and we did. We will have to work harder tomorrow as it will be a tough match. We will need to have more energy."

Cameroon coach Jean Rene Akono Bekono: "It is disappointing to lose. However, we are getting better. Last year when we played Japan in the world championships, we had three months to prepare. This time our preparation was very short and our performance was not good. We will continue to work and progress to our final match."

Cameroon captain Christelle Nana Tchoudjang: "It is regrettable that we lost. There were positives tonight. Our defense was better. Tomorrow our service and reception will get better."
