Argentina's a team on the rise: USA coach Kiraly

Hamamatsu, Japan, September 16, 2019 – USA defeated Argentina 3-0 (25-21, 25-18, 18-25, 25-11) in the second match on the third day of the FIVB Women’s World Cup at Hamamatsu Arena on Monday.

USA coach Karch Kiraly: "My compliments to the Argentina coach and team. They are clearly improving. They had a nice performance at the Pan American Games, so it’s a team that’s on the rise. And compliments to our team. They did a nice job after Argentina played strong in the third set. Our team had a nice response and came back strong and played all the phases of the game well. We have 14 players here that we have great trust in. We are very fortunate to have so many strong players and we know we’ll need every one of them to try and compete against the great teams in this tournament."

USA captain Jordan Larson: "I thought we started strongly against a great Argentina team. We played them in the qualifiers and knew they would be tough, but we finished strong. In the third set, they started defending well and we got stuck in Row 1, but all in all I thought we were still making really good plays. Credit to them for making some great defensive plays and serving tough, but I think we showed our strength in the fourth set."

Argentina coach Hernan Ferraro: "Congratulations to the USA; they’re a great team with a great coach. We played some great volleyball through the third set but in the fourth we lost our momentum. Winning our first set here is good for us and we are satisfied with our performance."

Argentina captain Julieta Constanza Lazcano: "Today was a very hard game. We expected a tough match but we played positively. We were able to take the third set by pressuring USA with some good serves. We made some errors, but not such a big deal; we can fix these before the next game."
